Although still young in forest terms, this woodland is buzzing with life and beautiful in all seasons. We are continually surprised by the variety of species. Clearings have encouraged growth of heather and bilberries enjoyed by bees and spiders. In 2025 a lizard was spotted in the glade as well as damselflies and dragonflies.
A number of birds have been seen and even more species heard and identified via phone apps. These include tawny owls, great spotted woodpeckers, a variety of tits, many goldcrests, and various warblers in the summer
Trail cameras have shown night-time activity including foxes running, badgers digging, two woodcocks wandering by the stream in winter and, at one time, even a brown hare passing through on a regular basis.
